Toronto, ON — Flanagan Foodservice is proud to announce that in 2025 it donated over 100,000 lbs of nutritious food to Second Harvest, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening food security and reducing food waste in local communities across Ontario.
According to the recently published Second Harvest Annual Report 2025, partnerships with food-service providers such as Flanagan Foodservice are vital in ensuring that surplus, high-quality food is redirected from landfill and into the hands of those who need it most. Flanagan Foodservice is proud to highlight its milestone contribution of more than 100,000 pounds of food from their Whitby distribution centre in the past year. These donations have helped result in Second Harvest redistributing over $400 million worth of food and providing 268,000 meals per day in the year of 2025, according to the report.
“We are proud to partner with Second Harvest,” said Derek Kelleher, President & CEO of Flanagan Foodservice. “Our goal is to do more than simply supply food: we want to make a meaningful impact in our communities. This year’s donation marks a significant step toward our vision of reducing food waste and fighting hunger simultaneously.”
Flanagan Foodservice’s donation of 100,000 + lbs of product included a variety of perishable and non-perishable food items, helping Second Harvest provide thousands of meals to individuals and families facing food insecurity.
This contribution aligns with Second Harvest’s broader mission of rescuing surplus food and redirecting it to community food programs, thereby reducing environmental impact and increasing access to healthy meals.
The 2025 Annual Report from Second Harvest underscores the ripple-effect of donations like these, which enable community partners to serve more people, strengthen supply-chain resilience and build local networks for food redistribution.
Millions of Canadians face hunger or food insecurity, and at the same time, large volumes of edible food go unused. By donating more than 100,000 lbs of surplus food, Flanagan Foodservice is helping bridge that gap. The partnership with Second Harvest does three things at once: supports vulnerable populations, diverts food from landfill (a win for sustainability) and maximizes the utility of food-service supply chains.
Flanagan Foodservice is committed to continuing and expanding its collaboration with Second Harvest and other community partners. Looking ahead to the future, the company will explore expanding the program to their Kitchener distribution centre, as an initiative to increase the volume, variety and reach of its donations.
Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food-rescue organization, committed to rescuing surplus food and redistributing it to non-profit agencies. It’s been running since 1985 and has grown rapidly over the years. By diverting food from landfill and into the hands of people in need, Second Harvest helps reduce hunger, strengthen communities and protect the environment.
